In a matter of 8 hours on a Saturday 1000 teenagers made a difference in the lives of the undernurished children of Haiti. When their day was complete 180,000 meals were on their way to Haiti.
This year's National Missionary Convention was held November 15 thru 18 at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The buzz during the Convention came from the very back corner in the Kids Against Hunger area. Kids Against Hunger is an International Program that has been feeding starving children worldwide for more than 20 years. During one hour shifts throughout an 8 hour day young men and women transformed sacks of rice and protein meal into prepacked nutritional meals.
To be part of this act of Christian love was a celebration of the goodness of mankind. To watch these male and female personalities blend into one common goal - meal preparation - was inspiring. When the final shift ended that Saturday there were 180,000 meals available for starving children that were not available at the beginning of the day. Not a bad day's work.
These young men and women will never meet the recipients of their incredible generosity. None of the volunteers received money for their Saturday service. Knowing they were helping other kids in need was all they needed to know to motivate them to serve. What does that say about these Christian youth. They came to serve and serve they did. What an awesome example to set for the rest of us.
